Last Monday the world awaited with anticipation for the news of Baby Sussex’s arrival. And five days ago the world seemed to pause for a moment as we saw a glimpse of of the newborn. We were greeted by the joyful parents and the calm newborn, Prince Harry joking “he wonders where he gets that from”. Then a short interview and photos were taken. Later in the day, iconic photos were taken by Chris Allerton of the new family which included the Queen, Prince Philip and Doria Ragland. These photos were posted online as learned his name for the first time: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. Technically Master Archie, Master being the male equivalent of Miss in the UK.

Many were surprised, but delighted by the name. It is too soon to tell the impact on baby names Archie Harrison will have. However his mum Duchess Meghan has already started making an impact. In the US, the name Meghan is among the fastest growing girl’s name. Social Security has released it’s annual list for the top baby names. With the release of the list Friday, Emma and Liam were again the most popular names. Meghan was the fastest rising girl’s name for 2018, moving from number 1,404 in 2017 to 703.

Duchess Meghan was well known prior to her marriage to Prince Harry last year. However the marriage propelled her to one of the most, if not the most watched and searched woman of 2018. With her popularity growing fast, time will tell if her name climbs higher. And weather her son’s name, Archie Harrison also grows. The entire list of baby names can be viewed on Social Security’s website here.
