Shout, a much needed text helpline was launched In the UK today. Spearheaded by the Sussexes with the help of the Cambridges. This campaign is an extension of Heads Together and is The Royal Foundation’s largest initiative and investment to date.

Shout is a free text messaging helpline that is available 24/7 and according to SussexRoyal on Instagram it’s: “a private, silent and trusted way, for those experiencing mental health challenges to find a safe space to seek help and support.”

Early in 2018, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex worked with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, contributors, and partners. In November 2018 Meghan and Harry made a surprise, but an ensconced visit to meet a group of Shout volunteers. They also participated in a panel with mental health activist Bryony Gordon, who has known Harry since 2017. Meaghan and Harry listened firsthand how the volunteers have found making a connection with the texters rewarding. How they are helping to give them serenity and clarity during the texters moment of crisis, and the courage to find longer-term support.

Shout is modeled after Crisis Text Line, from Meghan’s home country the US. Since 2013, CTL have helped millions and have processed more than 100 million messages. Earlier this month SussexRoyal on Instagram followed 16 accounts for Mental Health Awareness, @crisistextline and @bryonygordon are two of the 16.

Shout has already securely enlisted a 1,000 trained volunteers over the past year who have in turn helped 60,000 individuals. Shout is tapping into the United Kingdom’s volunteer community, aiming to recruit 3,000 additional volunteers by the end of 2019. To sign up to volunteer visit GiveUsaShout.org

As Duchess Meghan would say to echo Gandhi: Be the change you wish to see in the world.
