The Sussexes: An Influential Royal Couple

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were recently added to yet another influential list. “The 25 Most Influential People on the Internet.”

For Time’s fifth annual list, they were in the unranked top 25. According to TIME: “[We] evaluated contenders by looking at their global impact on social media and their overall ability to drive news.” Other names include Jada Pinkett-Smith, Jameela Jamil, and Ariana Grande.

A quote from the article:

Each month, in an effort to highlight advocates and organizations focusing on issues such as climate change and mental health awareness, the account rotates the users it follows—a savvy strategy that has driven headlines. The Sussexes’ forward-thinking, cause-oriented approach to social media fits neatly with other ways they are establishing their identity beyond the crown.

The influence Meghan brings

Since April, @SussexRoyal has been breaking records. The second of April arrived and the Sussex’s Instagram account was launched. SR became the fastest account to hit one million (5h 45m), according to Guinness. They currently have 9.2 million followers and it’s still steadily growing.

The most liked royal picture of all royal Instagram accounts is on SR. At 2.995+ million the picture of Archie with his family. It overtook another SR post, “It’s a boy!” They previously had a joint account with the Cambridges (@KensingtonRoyal). KensingtonRoyal, have been on Instagram since 15′ and was an account for William, Harry and Kate. When Harry met Meghan, it was the four of them. Prior to SR, the most liked picture was Meghan & Harry’s engagement portrait at 2.4 million. That is still the most liked picture on KR to my knowledge.

Duchess Meghan’s influence can be readily seen. Prior to Meghan’s arrival, KR had around 2 million followers. After Meghan and Harry’s relationship rumors swirled, followers grew. And after their wedding in May it shot up to 5 million. After SR formed, KR was at around 7 million. It has continued to rise. Prince Geroge’s birthday portrait was the previously most liked on KR prior to Meghan’s arrival. [Dated July 21, 2017 at 321k+ likes].

Meghan and Harry’s influence will continue to expand. As they continue working to make the world better and raise Lil Archie, the future is bright.
