The Endeavour Fund seeks to use sport to help “…wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans…” in their recovery and “…to support their rehabilitation.” (Endeavour Fund website)

Three Awards are awarded during the ceremony.

The Recognizing Achievement Award “is presented to the individual who has best utilized their endeavour to promote and catalyse their recovery.” (Endeavour Fund website) This award was won by Ms. Kelly Ganfield. Ms. Ganfield, a former soldier, developed a blood condition that caused her to have several strokes; which left her with brain injury and visual impairment. Ms. Ganfield competed in the Sydney Invictus Games and became the first visually-impaired competitor to win a medal.

The Celebrating Excellence Award “is presented to the individual who has endeavoured to achieve excellence in their chosen sport or adventure challenge.” This award was won by Mr. Nathan Forster. (Endeavour Fund website) Mr. Forster was badly injured by an IED blast while serving with the military in Afghanistan. Mr. Forster joined Flying for Freedom in 2012 and is now a commercial pilot; who pilots 737’s aeroplanes for TUI.

The Henry Worsley Award is presented “to the person who has best inspired others through the demonstration of determination in the face of adversity, whilst endeavouring to support others with their recovery through sport or adventure challenge.” (Endeavour Fund website) Former RAF Nurse Mr. Shaun Pascoe was the recipient of this award. Mr. Pascoe served with the RAF Medical Emergency Response Team on many tours until he was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress. Mr. Pascoe established the Forces’ Sailing Charity-Turn to Starboard to provide sailing opportunities to veterans and service personnel. So far more than 1,200 sailing opportunities have been provided.
